This weekend saw the start of the Finnish Formula Ford Championship. RDF, who are better know for their Rally car preparation and support services have entered the Championship with sixteen year old Atte Lehtonen.
This is the start of RDFs plan to move into Formula car racing and the team have some big ideas for the future. Having only taken delivery of the Premier Powered Juno car ealier in the week RDF shook the car down before testing on Friday at the Alastaro circuit. With the lap times some way off the pace, Atte soon developed his driving style from karts to cars, now having to deal with a clutch and gearbox. The youngster who doesn't even hold a road licence yet, improved in every session throughout the weekend, bringing the car home in one piece every time.
RDF boss Seppo Varmavuo said "I am really happy about our performance, we had very limited time to prepare for the weekend but everything worked really well".
Stuart Cresswell from Premier Power said "RDF have done a very professional job this weekend and have certainly earned their place in the paddock". "The car ran faultlessly in its first outing, now the team can get on with some serious testing to hopefully move themselves up the grid". Premier Power wishes Atte Lehtonen and Rally Drive Finland all the best for the future.
