This weekend saw the start of the 2011 UK Formula Ford Championship with new Premier Power drivers getting great results at Silverstone.
Australian Geoff Uhrhane, Jersey man Dan de Zille and Englishman Tristan Mingay lined up for JTR in the main Championship while Cavan Corcoran lined up with Getem Racing for the Scholar Championship battle. Matthew Parry has also joined the main championship with Fluid Motorsport. Matthew who started his first car races this weekend following several successful years in karting, is part of the Lotus Formula one teams driver development program.
Race 1 saw Geoff Uhrhane line up second on the grid for a race long battle with Scott Malvern. Following several changes of the lead, Scott won the race by 0.0775 of a second from Geoff.
In race 2 Uhrhane lined up on pole as the battle between Malvern and him continued, unfortunately with the two of them going off at Luffield. Uhrhane was able to carry on but couldn’t make it high enough to get on the podium. Mean while de Zille and Mingay were fighting hard with Dutchman Jeroen Slaghekke for the lead and both finished within 0.3 of a second to claim second and third.
Race 3 looked like it was to be another battle between Malvern and Uhrhane until the cars entered Brooklands on lap one where Malvern ran into the back of the Uhrhane car, pitching Malvern into the air, damaging his suspension and putting him out of the race. Uhrhane took the flag less than two second ahead of team mate de Zille to make it a JTR 1-2.
Cavan Corcoran scored three out of three wins in the Scholarship Championship to lead the Championship as it heads off to Oulton Park in two weeks time.
